Once Knickers were out-of-sight and mostly out of mind, but today unmentionables are everywhere. Smalls are big and knickers is no longer a dirty word. The past few years have seen a revolution in the knicker drawer – and whether you believe less is more or baggy is best, there’s a style out there that’s sexy, sassy and just for you or a loved one.

The earliest recorded knickers were created in 3000BC by a Babylonian girl who knotted cloth between her legs.  The Egyptians were so impressed that they immortalised her in a statue that you can see in the Paris Louvre today.  Yet it was not until the 1800’s that knicker-wearing became the norm and even the modern brief was many years away.

The first crotchless knickers were sported by the Victorians who wore enormous knee-length shorts that tied together at the waist, leaving things quite breezy below!  It was the Parisian Can-Can dancers of the 1930’s who first stitched up their seams and chopped their bloomers to reveal their high-kicking legs, thus creating knickers as we know them today.  These were sensational in their day, but they were nothing compared to the knicker explosion that has erupted in designer and high-street lingerie in the past few years.
